Nordic’s Commitment to the Environment - Green Energy Solutions

Nordic is committed to protecting our environment and reducing our carbon footprint.  As a cornerstone of our environmental commitment, we recently launched a new program called NordiGreen dedicated to offset the carbon impact for all of Nordic’s natural gas customers.

Unlike most offset programs which present offsets as an option to their customers, NordiGreen will be universally available and applied to current and future natural gas customers at no change in cost or level of service. This means not only will the carbon emissions of Nordic Energy’s customers’ natural gas use be fully offset (100%) effectively reducing clients’ carbon footprint, but the offsets will also directly support a suite of projects powering various co-benefits such as cleaner water, cleaner air, enhanced biodiversity, and opportunities for sustainable economic development.

Nordic Energy, LLC is currently evaluating a series of projects that include sustainable land use management, afforestation, and renewable energy development. The voluntary carbon offset certificates support projects within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change protocol (UNFCCC) and are independently verified and certified. Certificates are tracked and retired in a globally recognized registry (e.g. Verified Carbon Standard).
In addition, Nordic provides green energy plans that are based on 100% renewable resources, mostly biomass.  Biomass is an organic material that comes from plants and animals.  We are proud to offer an energy source that is carbon neutral, reduces the over-reliance of fossil fuels, results in less garbage in landfills, and gives our clients greater control over their energy future.

Green Energy Solutions Info

The green energy plans include renewable energy certificates sourced from biomass within the United States ("RECs") in an amount equal to 100% of the Accounts' usage, in addition to the mandatory renewable portfolio standard requirements for the state in which the Accounts are located, during the term of this Agreement. Nordic pairs 100% of electricity usage with RECs, over and above any RPS requirements. 0% of the RECs paired with electricity under this program were generated in the State of Illinois.
