North Central Indiana School Districts Form Special Cooperative to Realize Natural Gas Savings

CHICAGO, August 10, 2004 - Approximately twenty school districts in North Central Indiana have banded together to form a cooperative to ensure that their facilities maximize energy dollars throughout 2005. Nordic Energy Services, a Chicago-area energy management company, announced today that they will be the exclusive energy manager and natural gas vendor for this special school co-op.

"We presented the cooperative with creative cost-savings strategies that are unique to NIPSCO's program," said Nordic President Jim Deering. "We specialize in forming large buying groups in the energy and telecommunications arenas and we're looking forward to working closely with this co-op to ensure that their energy purchasing and risk management are first rate."

Not only will the cooperative benefit from lower costs due to placing a larger buy, Nordic will also make sure this group realizes energy savings regardless of national gas price fluctuations. "Nordic presented our cooperative with a concept that we truly believe will save our school districts valuable dollars," said Larry Jackowiak, North Central Energy Cooperative Advisory Committee Member. "Now we'll receive volume incentives and experienced consultation when it comes to purchasing strategies and the natural gas market."

Nordic Vice President John Zaharias urges other school districts to look at all the different options available when it comes to managing their energy services. Zaharias also notes that historically, the time to make a change is spring or fall, so districts must move quickly, or make a plan for spring of 2005. "Forming the cooperative was a great idea because not only will they have a coordinated energy plan, but the schools will also begin communicating with each other about the concerns and challenges they face when it comes to budgeting and paying for utilities."
